CertainTeed’s ceiling tile factory in Meridian, MS was reopened with much fanfare in May 2015 and is now being closed. The factory, which had manufactured ceiling tiles since 1941 under a variety of owners first fell victim to the Great Recession and was closed in 2009.

CertainTeed’s ceiling tile factory in Meridian, MS was reopened with much fanfare in May 2015 and is now being closed. The factory, which had manufactured ceiling tiles since 1941 under a variety of owners first fell victim to the Great Recession and was closed in 2009. The company invested $24 million in updating and modernizing the plant prior to its 2015 reopening. The State of Mississippi’s Development Authority contributed $1.7 million towards the reopening project, and CertainTeed also received financial assistance from the City of Meridian and Lauderdale County. A total of 110 new jobs were slated to be created by the reopening. When the factory closes, 90 workers will lose their jobs. The work performed at this facility will be transferred to another CertainTeed facility in L’Anse, Michigan. The company also maintains manufacturing operations in Plymouth, WI and Ellenton, FL.  CertainTeed is a subsidiary of French construction conglomerate Saint-Gobain, which employs nearly 200,000 people worldwide.
